The Humane Society is full of hidden gems…

When I walked into the Humane Society nearly 10 years ago, I had no idea that I would give my heart away. The second I saw Yoda we had a connection and an instant camaraderie. Named for her great big “Yoda” ears, this sweet girl made my life so much richer. We went on walks, car rides and camping trips. We cuddled, played with her tennis balls, rope toys and throw ring; and most of all we just enjoyed each other. She was my constant companion who kept me going in the toughest of times, the one who was keyed into my every emotion.
We had to put my sweet Yodabug to sleep last week due to severe anemia from cancer. Our house and our lives have become empty without her unbridled spirit. I have a hole in my heart from missing my sweet girl, and I know that she was one-of-a-kind and could never really be replaced. Words could never express how much Yoda meant to me and how much she was loved, and I thank you for connecting us. For now Yoda lives on through a decade of wonderful memories…
If the time comes when I am ready to have another doggie companion, I will be visiting the Humane Society to find our new family member. Again, thank you for everything you guys do for these animals in need of love and good homes.
Buddy the Spaniel Mix
I wanted to share with you some information on an adoption that my sister did with your organization.
Over 10-years ago my sister, Amy, found and fell in love with a spaniel mix adult dog, brought him home, and named him Buddy. For the past 10+ years this little guy was such a great companion and friend for her....with his funny personality, his patience, his adventurous spirit. Buddy passed away in his sleep this last weekend at the estimated age of 16. I've attached a picture of this special friend.
I know that you can't find homes for all the animals that come into your facility, but I wanted to share with you just one story of an adoption that brought my sister, and our family many, years of joy.
Thank you for all you do.

Christmas Success Story
We adopted Daisy, who is a 5 year old border collie/lab mix, and fell in love right away. She has the most amazing blue eyes I've ever seen. From the moment she came into our home it felt like she had been here all along. Daisy is so calm and loving with our toddler and 8 year old cat. She follows my son around and is an amazing buddy! She will live out the rest of her life with a warm bed inside and a yard to play ball in. I appreciate all the training and love her previous owners gave her. Miss Daisy is a blessing in our lives! What a great Christmas this will be with our new fur baby. I hope that more people will consider an adult dog and give them a loving home. It couldn't have turned out any better for us!
Thank you to everyone at the humane society for all your hard work!

Tank is in a class all his own...
This here is our baby boy tank. He is a pit bull but don't stereotype that breed he has the heart of an angel! We met him at the humane society back in January and immediately thought, "wow, what a gorgeous boy!" We fell in love right away. He was super shy when we met him and by the look in those pretty brown eyes you can tell he was hurt and had no trust for people. We came back for him the next day and took his shy butt home :) for 2 months he was an "only child" we do everything we can to get trust back in his heart he wants to trust I just know it! In march I eneded up coming across a female red nose pit bull puppy for sale. When I met her she was extremely under weight at only 11 weeks old but she was extremely confident which was what I wanted for tank, so we took her (Jahzmyn) home as well. Since then tank's progress has been amazing! Tank and Jahzmyn go to Petco and Petsmart where they have quite the fan club (people can't get enough of these two). They wear their outfits on occasion too (the idea was given to me by Cathleen Catti thank you). It makes it even easier to introduce them to people. Tank has been through a lot in his life ad right now we are all learning a lot (not just tank) about how to cope and get past it. He's still shy and doesnt trust people but his personality is pricelss! Tank talks whenever he's excited which is always. He wiggles so much when he's happy that I'm sure his teeth will start chattering! He's afraid of plastic bags and attacks reflections! He loves to go on rides (which is great because he used to get nervous and sad when we did this). I know I'm rambling and going on and on but words cannot express how much we love tank (and Jahzmyn of course!) Everyday is a new and great experience! I've been with the breed my entire life but tank is in a class all his own! I guess I just want to say thank you? (And obviously ramble) Tank is a perfect and amazing little boy! The bad rep put on pit bulls needs to end! I'm currently in the process of talking to the local news stations and seeing what can be done about putting a story on the air showing the true side of pits instead of just the stereotype! Tank and Jahzmyn are my inspiration! Thank you for your pit bull support and even more so thank you for our perfect little boy!

She is so loving and entertaining...
When I see Mist, I'm reminded of a country western song with the lyrics "I saw God today". This magnificent creature could only be created by a higher power and is so full of love and incredibly smart that I'm convinced that God gave her to me to remind me of his ever present love in the world we inhabit. Before I adopted Mist from the Idaho Humane Society, I carefully read the card her former owner had completed before surrendering her for adoption. It described Mist as "stand-offish", stating that she eventually warmed up to you, if given the chance. I noticed that others visiting her cage that day, immediately reached in to pet her, without reading the card and she did not come to them, sometimes even hissing in fear. After reading the card, I took time to talk to her (using her name) and when I did open her cage, she came to me, and gave me a hug (stretching her legs and paws on both sides of my neck and rubbing her head against my cheek) when she allowed me to pick her up. We repeated this sequence of events when I revisited her the next day. That was the day I adopted her, not knowing a lot about cats and praying it would work out well for both of us. That prayer was answered. I often tell people that Mist is a cat, who thinks she is a dog, as she is my constant companion when I'm home, following me from room to room. She returns each small act of kindness with a similar act of kindness. For example, while Mist was laying on a towel on the bathroom counter, I reached out and gently stroked her before washing my hands. While I was washing my hands, she reached out and gently rested her paw on my forearm (something she has done on more than one occasion). I soon discovered that she also can push open a door with a round door knob, if she can reach it to turn it! I bought two books on cats, one which states that cats have hundreds of facial expressions. I'm convinced that Mist has all of them and communicates rather effectively! She is so loving and entertaining that I know her former owner must have cried in her heart when she gave her up. I'd like that person to know that she has a good home. I can tell that you spent time training her, as there are several sentences she understands, which I did not teach her. (Mist is still a timid cat, but only with people she doesn't know or anyone wearing a black coat. Absent the presence of strangers, she plays freely and securely in her new home, and is a happy cat.)
